Died, Saturday morning, March 20, 1897, Richard L. Roberts, aged 65 years, 12 months, 20 days. Funeral services were held in the M.E. Church, Lena, Monday March 22d. Rev. Strong officiating and internment in Fletcher Cemetery. The deceased was an Odd Fellow and a Mason, being a member of Social Lodge F.& A.M. for nearly thirty years. The order buried him in accordance to their ritual and passed the following resolutions:
Whereas, it has pleased the Grand Architect of the Universe to remove our brother Richard L. Roberts, and:
Whereas, It is but just that a fitting recognition of his many virtues should be had, therefore be it:
Resolved, by Social Lodge, No. 217, Free and Accepted Masons, that while we bow with humble submission to the will of the Most High, we do not the less mourn for our brother, who has been taken from us.
Resolved, That, in the death of Richard L. Roberts, this Lodge laments the loss of a brother who was ever ready to proffer the hand of aid and the voice of sympathy to the needy and distressed of the fraternity, and active member of this Society, whose utmost endeavors were exerted for its welfare and prosperity, a friend and companion who was dear to us all, a citizen whose upright and noble life was a standard of emulation to his fellows.
Resolved, That the heartfelt sympathy of this Lodge be extended to his widow and relatives in their affliction and a copy of this resolution signed by the Worshipful Master and Wardens with the seal of the Lodge attached, be presented to the widow of our deceased brother.
