John Cable Fox
John Cable Fox, the son of Harry and Orpha Fox, was born July 23rd, 1904. He departed this life October 8th, 1927 at the age of twenty-three.
John's early life was spent on the farm near the banks of Greenville Creek. It was in this country home where John spent many happy days in work, in play, and attending the country school. A few years later the family moved to Covington. Here he continued his work in school until he finished his high school education. John graduated in the class of 1922 and some of the young men of his class were, James Hartle, Joseph Miller Carol Koon and Roger O'Donnell. The class in all numbered 18. John was known by his schoolmates as a young man rather timid and reserved, but ever friendly and sociable, full of smiles, and always a ready helper in time of need. The following year he attended school at Miami University and later on took a business course in Dayton, Ohio. His preparation for life's work was not all sunshine. His mother died when he was fourteen years old and with all the things a boy misses without a mother, John appeared cheerful and happy. It was two years before this sad event, when John was only twelve, that he made a confession and gave his heart to God. The Tri M Sunday school class remembers him as one of their group in class on Sunday morning, active and ready for the message. The spray of flowers given by his class is a token of remembrance of his loyalty and service.
The Sabbath day was near approaching when John's life was taken from him. No doubt during this last day on earth, he thought of home, his father, mother, sisters and loved ones. Working beneath a great machine, thinking all was well when suddenly a noise, a break, a drop of machinery, two men killed. One was John.
