He was a member of the Blue Lodge and Chapter, of the Red Men and of the Kiwanis Club. Quoting the Stillwater Valley News: "Mr. O'Donnell has been a Covington resident for over forty years and has been connected nearly his entire life in public service in this community. For many years he served on the Board of Education in an untiring manner, being very instrumental in securing the new high school building that is in process of construction at the present time. His position as clerk of the board made him an important aid to that organization and he has worked unceasingly to bring educational standards up to a high plane in local public schools." A devoted husband and companion, an affectionate father and brother, a kindly friend and neighbor, a Christian man has left the ills of earth behind and entered into life eternal.
"Earth to earth, and dust to dust,
Calmly now the words we say,
Left behind we wait in trust
Till the Resurrection day.
Father, in Thy gracious keeping
Leave we now Thy servant sleeping."
