DREADED DISEASE CLAIMS SECOND VICTIM IN FAMILY
Meford Melia Succumbs to Milk Sickness- Baby Dead and Mother in Serious
Condition. The dreaded "milk sickness" has again taken its toll of
the Melia family of near Circle Hill, with the death of the father, Melford,
who contracted the disease last June and had since been more or less confined
to his bed. The first death caused by the milk sickness in that family
was that of an infant child who died in July. The widow, mother of the victims, three children is at present time
lying in an unconscious state, suffering from the disease contracted in
August. Three children besides the widow and parents of the husband survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday from the Baptist church at Fletcher
at 11:30. Burial will be made in the Fletcher cemetery.

PTOMAINE POISONING TAKES THIRD MEMBER OF FAMILY
Double Funeral for Mr. and Mrs. Melia held at Fletcher Baptist Church Friday. Mrs. Melford Melia, who has been very ill with ptomaine poisoning and whose husband passed away Monday evening, succumbed Wednesday. Mrs. Melia has been suffering since August and her husband was first taken with the dreaded disease in June, one of their little children passing in July with the same trouble. Neighbors and friends have sought to help them in their distress and trouble, but nothing could be done by friends or physicians to save their lives. Three young children, the oldest 5, remains, as well as the sorrowing parents of both Mr. and Mrs. Melia. A double funeral was held in Fletcher, Friday morning at 11:30 from the Baptist church. Burial will be made in Fletcher.
