CAMPBELL, WM. J. - W. S. Campbell of Springcreek received word, Friday, of the death of his son, Wm. J. in the Philippines.  The letter was from Lieut. D. A. Lindsay, U. S. A., commanding Co. L., 1st Reg't, U. S. Inf., the company of which Will belonged.  It was dated May 2d, at Mans, Island of Samar, and stated that Will had been accidentally shot April 29th, and had died and was buried with military honors, May 1st.  The many friends of the young man in Troy and up around his old home, are very sorry to hear of his death, and much sympathy is extended to the parents.  He was 23 years of age and was born and raised in Springcreek township.  He enlisted last November and went to the Philippines in February.  Samar is a large and uncivilized island where the fierce fighting occurred last winter.  It is four hundred miles southeast of Manila.  Mr. Campbell will have his son's body brought home.
