HOLFINGER, WILLIAM H. - W. H.
Holfinger, the Pleasant Hill rural carrier whose tragic accidental death was
described in the last issue of the Miami Union, was born in Washington township,
Miami county, July 15, 1877. He was confirmed a member of St. John's Ev.
Lutheran congregation of Covington at the age of 14 years. In early life
he qualified himself for teaching in the public schools and later he graduated
from The Ohio Northern University at Ada, afterward serving as principal for
several years, in the Bradford high school. In January 1904, he took a
position as mail clerk in the U. S. Postal service and resigned his position
last spring. In June last he took a position as rural mail carrier at
Pleasant Hill, removing his family from Covington to that village later.
He was united in marriage with Miss Alma Roeth, July 6, 1905. Two children
were born, a son now 6 years old and a daughter 4. These together with the
parents and many relatives and friends, mourn his untimely death. The
funeral services were held Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Lutheran
church in Covington being conducted by his pastor, Rev. W. H. Brown.
