JENKINS, DAVID ESQ. - Died, June 13th, 1857, my father, David Jenkins, Esq., aged 70 years, 9 months, and 6 days of pulmonary disease, with which he was afflicted the last eighteen or twenty months. He died as he had lived, a Christian. Born in Newberry District, South Carolina, on the 7th of September, 1786, he emigrated to Ohio in the year 1806, and in 1808 he settled on the farm where he resided, then a howling wilderness. He succeeded in clearing up a small farm, and in 1817 was elected Justice of the Peace of Concord Township, Miami County, and served two years, when Monroe Township was organized, and in 1822 was again elected Justice of the Peace, and served with the exception of one year, until his death. He professed religion in the year 1834, and joined the Presbyterian Church at Nashville; and in 1851, when the Christian Church was organized at Fidelity, he removed his standing to that place, was chosen deacon, and served in that office until his death. His funeral was attended by the order of the Sons of Temperance from Troy and vicinity; sermon on the occasion by Elder R. Brandon. I. K. Jenkins
