HATFIELD, ELIAS - At his residence in Troy, Ohio, April 21, 1863, Elias Hatfield in the forty-fifth year of his age. The subject of the above notice was born in Ross County, Ohio, June 24, 1818. At an early age he came to Troy where for more than thirty years he has continued to reside. To say that he was a good citizen would be the very least that justice to his reputation could permit. His boyhood was unlike those around him, but marked as was his manhood, by devotion to his own business. It is not designed by this remark to intimate that he was selfish--for Elias Hatfield was liberal to a fault. But he quietly attended to his own matters. Perhaps few men have lived in this community more perfectly at peace with all men than Mr. Hatfield. After an illness of twenty-four days he has been removed--leaving an affectionate family to mourn his loss.
