Tipp City Herald

November 26, 1975

WHITE, RUTH - Continuing proof of the much quoted, "A teacher affects eternity; you can never tell where his influence stops," is in evidence of this week as many Tipp Citians bid farewell to their favorite teacher.  Ruth Sims White, 67, 230 West Main street, died Saturday at Dettmer hospital following an extended illness.  A teacher before her marriage, she substituted in several school systems before the family moved to Tipp City.  Here she conducted a private kindergarten, widely known and recommended, before L. T. Ball, school superintendent, persuaded her to open the Tipp district's first public kindergarten in 1951.  Until June of 1969, she was a vital part of the beginning educational processes of the local system.  She is remembered with love and respect by hundreds of young people.  Though her influence on "eternity" cannot be measured, the four clocks which depict the time zones of the United States in Broadway school, are representative of the many hours she spent with the children who passed through the doors of the kindergarten there.  Though Mrs. White had been very ill for over six years, she continued to keep up her interest in her distinguished husband's third career.  The wife of Fred White, senior vice president emeritus at Wright State university, her memory will be kept alive at the school by those who make memorial contributions to the Ruth White Memorial fund, in care of Wright State.  The daughter of the late James D. and Celia Sims, Mrs. White was born on July 1, 1908 in Middletown.  She received her teaching certificate from Bowling Green State university and taught in Kenton until her marriage in 1931 to Fred White.  The family moved to Tipp City in 1942 when Mr. White took a job with the Aeroproducts division of General Motors corporation.  She is survived by her husband, Frederick A. White; two sons, Robert F. of Tipp City and Stephen S. of Napoleon; a sister, Mrs. Hazel Trapp of Lockland and six grandchildren.  Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran church of which Mrs. White was a member.  Pastor E. L. Parrish will officiate.  Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery.  Friends may call at the Frings & Bayliff funeral home on Tuesday (today) from 4-9 p.m.
