WELLS, RUFUS GIBBON - Ludlow Falls--Rufus Gibbon Wells died August 3, at St. Louis, Mo.  Paralysis was the cause of his death he having been ill since March 13th.  He was the son of Mary and Laban Wells and was born April 1, 1830, near Manchester, N. Y.  He was married Oct. 21, 1873, and is survived by his wife, Sarah Furnas Wells, M. D.  The body was brought here Thursday evening and taken to the home of his wife's nephew, John Miles.  The funeral was held August 5th from the Friends' church in this place being conducted by the Rev. Perry Furnas.  Interment at Union cemetery near here.  He was brought up in the Friends church and attended the mission service in St. Louis.  He was a Free Mason of the 18th degree.  Rugus Wells was one of the first and most remarkable aeronauts.  He had made ascensions in the United States, Mexico, South America, Europe, India, Java, Burmah, Australia, in fact in nearly every region of the world.  He also wrote continuously for the press and attended various world's fairs as special correspondent.
