COOMBS,
MRS. SARAH -
Mrs. Sarah Coombs died Sunday, July 24th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. O.
McConnaughey, at Raper Chapel. Death was due to cancer, from which she had
suffered for years. She was born May 24th, 1832, near
Frostburg
,
Md.
, where her earlier years were spent. In 1851 she was married to George V.
Coombs. They were removed to
Morgantown
, W. Va., and in 1869 came to
Miami
county. To them were born four boys and three girls, only one of whom
survives, Mrs. Flora C. McConnaughey, who has tenderly and lovingly cared for
her mother during her illness. There are also two grandchildren, the
children of Harry E. Coombs, whose death at a
Dayton
railway crossing so signally shocked the people of this county a few weeks ago.
Her husband died 18 years ago. Mrs. Coombs had been a member of the M. E.
church since early childhood. She was a woman of excellent heart and was
highly esteemed by all. The funeral was held from the home of her
daughter, Tuesday, July 26, and was conducted by the Rev. D. S. Ferguson.
Interment at New Carlisle cemetery.
