Miami Union
August 10, 1911
YERTY, MRS. CATHARINE - Sister
Catharine Babylon Yerty was born on the old Babylon homestead, two miles north
of Clayton, Miami county, Ohio, August 27th, 1840, and departed this life at her
late home, one mile north of Clayton, July 29th, 1911, aged 70 years, 11 months
and 2 days. She was one of ten children, six of whom preceded her to the
life beyond. Those surviving her are, Emanuel Babylon, who lives near
Holden, Johnston county, Mo.; Mrs. Lavina Prince, who resides in Shelby county,
Ohio; and Mrs. Alice Wenrick, near Bradford, in Darke county, Ohio. She
was married to David Yerty June 16th, 1859. Two children were the result
of this union, Mrs. Mary E. Fulker and S. F. Yerty, who both survive her.
After their marriage they moved near Berlin in Shelby county, and located in the
unbroken forest. Here they commenced clearing up a farm and endured the
inconvenience and hardship of early pioneer life. After seven years of
toil in the green woods they moved to the farm where her days were ended, and
where they resided for 45 years. She united with the Christian church at
Clayton about eight years ago under the labors of Rev. D. K. Judy, and has
remained faithful till the Master called her from labor and suffering to reward.
The disease which terminated in her death manifested itself about a year ago,
and at times her sufferings were very severe, but she suffered as a Christian
patiently and without murmuring or complaint. She expressed herself often
as ready to go, even praying for the hour which would bring her rest and quiet.
She came down to the grave like a shock of corn, fully ripe for the Master's
garner above. In her death the husband has lost a true wife and companion,
and the children a loving and indulgent mother. She was an obliging and
helpful neighbor, ever ready to lend a hand in time of need.
Dearest
sister, thou hast left us.
Here thy loss we deeply feel,
But
'tis God who hath bereft us;
He
can all our sorrows heal.
Yet
again we hope to meet thee
When
the day of life is fled,
And
in heaven with joy to greet thee
Where
no farewell tear is shed.
She leaves to mourn her departure a faithful companion, one
daughter, one son, two sisters, one brother, seven grandchildren, two
great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. The funeral
services were held from the Christian church at Clayton, August 1st, at 10
o'clock a.m. Sermon on the occasion by Rev. C. W. Heoffer, of Richmond,
Ind. The body was interred in the cemetery at Covington.
