25 Jan 1900

The death of George H. Williams, occurred at the residence of Jacob Reiber, on Monday, Jan. 15th. He was 49 years old, was a painter, paper hanger, and decorator by trade. He was the son of Michael and Jane Williams and a great grandson of Michael Williams, Sr., who was among the first settlers of his part of the county, having come here sometime between 1787 and 1800. He belonged to a family of eight children, himself and seven sisters. The parents and six of the sisters have preceded him across the dark river. His genial qualities made him many friends wherever his lot was cast. About a year ago his health began to fail and Bright's disease set in. Some weeks ago he contracted a heavy cold resulting in lung fever, which, owing to his enfeebled condition, he was unable to resist. His funeral took place from the home of the only surviving member of the family, Mrs. Jacob Reiber, on Wednesday, Jan. 17th, conducted by Rev. Warren H. Sando, pastor of the Christian Church. He leaves, besides his only sister above mentioned, an uncle, George Williams, of Troy, one aunt, Mrs. Benjamin Rhodehamel, of Wingate, Ind., and many other more distant relatives to mourn his departure. Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery by Undertaker R. R. Whitmer.
