MARKHAM, (DAUGHTER OF MR. MARKHAM) - Sad Occurrence - On Wednesday last, a lad some thirteen or fourteen years of age, residing in the family of Mr. Markham of this town, got hold of a gun belonging to Mr. M. loaded it, and either intentionally or accidentally fired it off in the room in which there was no other person at the time but himself and a little daughter of Mr. M., between two and three years of age.  The ball passed through the side of the child's head and then through its arm, so injuring it that it died in a few hours afterward.  No one supposes, for a moment, that the lad intended to injure the child, but the shooting was undoubtedly an act of gross carelessness.  The occurrence is a sad one and should operate as a warning to those who keep guns about their houses.
