STEIN, MICHAEL - Requiem mass was held Saturday
morning at 9 o'clock for Michael Stein, 78, a resident of Piqua since his
arrival in this country as a small boy at St. Mary's Catholic church.
Burial was made in Forest Hill cemetery. Mr. Stein was born in Mutterholz,
Alsace Loraine, Oct. 21, 1854, coming to this country with his parents when he
was a boy. The voyage was made in a sailing vessel and three weeks passed
before they arrived in the United States. His father was one of the first
coopers in Piqua. The decedent died at his home, 109 Riverside drive,
Thursday afternoon at 3:45 o'clock following a short illness. Four
children survive, they are: Mrs. Bernard Kussman and Mrs. Walter Lynch of Piqua,
Mrs. E. M. Gilligan and Mrs. Samuel McArtor of Columbus. A son, Maurice,
met accidental death in a railroad accident in 1905 and Mrs. Stein preceded him
in death 30 years ago. A brother, George, of the St. Marys pike north of
Piqua, and three sisters, Mrs. Barbara Longnecker, Mrs. Mary Schneyer and Mrs.
Edward Racine, all of Piqua, also survive.
