Miami Union

March 9, 1911

BEWLEY, MARY L. - Mary L., daughter of Thomas and Margaret Deweese, was born in Miami county, Ohio, October 1, 1844, and died February 21, 1911, aged 66 years, 4 months and 20 days.  There were seven children in her childhood home, three sons and four daughters.  One brother and one sister have preceded her to their eternal home.  September 1, 1864 Mary Deweese became the wife of Henry Bewley and into this happy home came four children, three of whom, the son Charles and two daughters, Mrs. Carrie Miller and Mrs. Shelby McDowell live to mourn the loss of a loving and beloved mother.  August 1, 1906, the death angel invaded the home and the father and husband was taken from their midst.  For some two years Mrs. Bewley has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Miller, and thence the heavenly messenger called her to her eternal home.  Mrs. Bewley was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Raper Chapel under the ministry of Rev. Cheney some 35 years ago.  For years she has faithfully filled the position of steward.  Her Christian life has been faithful and consistent.  More than that it has been beautiful.  She has been an epistle of Christ known and read of all men and the world is better because she has lived in it.  She was always a dispenser of sunshine.  Her faith was that large kind that take Christ at his word when he says "Let not your heart be troubled neither let it be afraid, ye believe in God believe also in me."  Her heart was not troubled and she was not afraid, for her hand was so firmly held by the Divine hand that she knew she should walk and not stumble; that she should run and not faint.  The memory of her sweet, cheery face and her bright smile will never fade.  She has made a place for herself in the heart of her friends and there she will remain.  Love is eternal and the same tender love that bound her to her dear ones here will continue without a break until we clasp her hand again after the partings are all passed.  Funeral services at Raper Chapel by her pastor, Rev. Delos S. Ferguson.  Interment at Riverdale cemetery.
