Mary A. Hughes  

PIQUA -- Mary A. Hughes, 86, of 1508 Broadway, died Wednesday, May 20, 1998, at 10:45 p.m. in the Piqua Memorial Medical Center.  She was born in Piqua on May 7, 1912, to the late George M. and Almeda Alice Cron Bertling. She married Walter T. Hughes Sr. on June 18, 1933, in Piqua.  He preceded her in death on March 4, 1996. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, William T. and Linda Hughes and Walter T. and Janette Hughes Jr., all of Piqua; one daughter, Mrs. R.J. (Alice) Schilling of Piqua; 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two brothers Don Bertling of Piqua and Alan Bertling of Huber Heights. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister. Mrs. Hughes was a graduate of Piqua Central High School and a homemaker.  She was a member of the Greene Street United Methodist Church where she was active in the Women’s Society of Christian Service. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, May 23, 1998, at 10 a.m. in the Greene Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. James R. Christy officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Jamieson & Yannucci Funeral Home.
