In Memory of Margaret Cron  

Margaret Cron was born March 4, 1806 in Franklin County, Ohio, near Columbus.  She removed to Piqua with her parents when but five year of age, and had since resided where she died and near it.  She had witnessed the many changes which have taken place in Piqua since that time in the transformation of the wilderness into our now beautiful city. any times she recalled the early days of her childhood, when the Indians lived here.  Among the incidents she related was the massacre of the Dilbone family, and the settlers came to her father’s house for saftey.  Her father resided almost on the spot where he now sleeps his last sleep.  She was married in July, 1827 to John Graham who preceded her to the grave 21 years ago.  To them were born eleven children, six of whom were spared to minister to their aged mother in her last sickness.  In her last years a kind and loving grand-daughter took care of her and was careful for her every want.  Her children who remain are Mrs. Robert Anderson, and Nicholas, Edward, Martin and William Graham of Piqua, and Mrs. H. S. Woolsey of Findlay, Ohio.She united with Greene Street M. E. Church in 1843, but owing to infirmities of age had not been able to attend divine services of late years. And now after living nearly four score and almost ten years, she laid down the burdens of life July 23, 1895, aged 89 years, 4 months, and 19 days.  She gave evidence many times of the clearness of the future.  She said “ she was not afraid to die, that there was a better world than this for her”  Her only regret was to leave her son who resided with her.  Borne to her grave by her four grandsons and two nephews we can appropriately quote the following lines:  (Did not copy this part, it was a poem.)
