COATE, JONATHAN C. - Jonathan C. Coate, one of Miami county's best men, and for nearly twelve consecutive years a member of the Board of County Commissioners, died at his residence in Newton township, on Monday morning last.  His disease was lung fever, of which he had been down about ten days.  We held the office of county Auditor when Mr. Coate first entered upon the duties of Commissioner.  This brought us into intimate relations with him which subsisted nearly three years, and from that time to the time of his death we were on terms of intimacy.  We, therefore, knew him well, and when we now say that a more honorable, upright, pure-minded man could not be found in the county, we say only what we have often said during his life, and what every person acquainted with him will readily endorse.  Mr. Coate was a member of the Friend Quaker sect and the principles of that people were truly and faithfully illustrated in his life and conduct.  In his death his family have sustained an irreparable loss and the county has lost one of its truest, best, and most useful citizens.
