Miami Union

MILES, JOHN - Ludlow Falls--John Miles died at his home here Saturday, December 10, after an illness of only ten days, death being due to diabetic coma.  Mr. Miles was a son of Moses and Mary Miles and was born Aug. 16, 1848, about 2 1/2 miles north of Ludlow Falls.  He was married to Susannah Coppock Dec. 28, 1871, she dying July 5, 1897.  Three children were given to this union, one dying in infancy.  The other two are Mrs. Fred Coppock of Greenville and Clarence, who lived at home with his father and helped care for him during his illness.  His second marriage was solemnized in Feb. 1900 to Miss Clara Jay of Jaysville and together they lived a happy life until her death which occurred May 20, 1909.  Mr. Miles was a man of clean moral habits and had a host of friends who held him in the highest regard.  He spent his entire life in or near Ludlow, having taken up farming as his occupation.  He also had control of a saw mill for a number of years, but had lived a retired life the past few years, having moved to this village about nine years ago.  He leaves besides his two children, two grandchildren, one brother, whose home is in St. Louis, an aged aunt, Mrs. Sarah Furnace Wells, also of St. Louis, and other relatives and friends to mourn his death.  Those relatives who were present from a distance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Jay and Napoleon Jay of Jaysville, Ohio, Mrs. Albright and daughter of Arcanum, Mrs. Slade, Mr. and Mrs. Omar Patty and Dr. Patty, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Coppock of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Iddings of Dayton, Mrs. and Mrs. Charles Miles and son of Bradford, Mrs. Mary Coppock of West Milton, Furnace Miles of St. Louis, his brother who was with him at the time of his death.  The family has the deep sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement.  The funeral services were held at the home at 2:30 p.m. Monday and were conducted by Rev. O. P. Furnas.  Interment was made in Old Union cemetery north of Ludlow Falls.
