C. Cron dies today; funeral director 50 years
John
C. Cron, 72, of 411 Broadway, died at 1:15 a.m. Tuesday in Piqua Memorial
Hospital a few hours after he was admitted.
Mr. Cron had been a funeral director 50 years.
Together with his brothers, Kenneth and Robert, he incorporated the
family business at 608 W. High as J. C. Cron Sons, Inc. in 1960.
The business was founded in 1888 by Mr. Cron’s father Jackson Clifford
Cron. Mr. Cron was born in Piqua, May 13, 1904, to the late Jackson C. and
Stella I. Denman Cron. He was
married to Helen E. Hurley, who died Dec. 15, 1973. Mr.
Cron was a member of Greene Street United Methodist Church, the Piqua Rotary
Club, Piqua Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks 523 and the Border City
Luncheon Club. During World War II,
he head the Piqua chapter of the American Red Cross. Surviving is one daughter,
Mrs. Harold E. Lyon (Nancy) of Columbus and two grandchildren.
Also surviving is one brother, Robert D. Cron of Troy.
A brother, Kenneth L. Cron, died in 1969 and a sister, Rebecca Irene
Cron, died in childhood. Funeral
