HALES, JESS C. - Jess C. Hales, 69 of 1006 E. Canal St., Troy died January 5 at his residence.  He had been in failing health.  Mr. Hales was born in Miami County Sept. 11, 1904, a son of John W. and Lydia Emerick Hales.  He was married to Sara P. Lacey, who preceded in death in June 1967.  He was a retired employee of Dayton Progress, West Carrollton.  Surviving are three children, Mrs. Richard (Joyce) Dungan of Tipp City, Thomas L. Hales and Mrs. Guy (Phyllis) Walker, both of Troy; two brothers, Frederick P. Hales and Leon Hales, both of Troy; 18 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.  Three brothers and two sisters preceded in death.  Services were Tuesday at the Sarah Hayner Dickey Memorial Chapel in Riverside cemetery, Troy.
