WELLS, GARY - A 51-year-old Tipp City man was struck and killed early Saturday morning as he stood in the lane of travel on South State Route 202.  Gary Wells, of 9060 St. Rt. 202 in Tipp City, was pronounced dead on the scene by the Tipp City Emergency crew just before 2 a.m. Saturday morning.  According to Miami County Sheriff's reports, it is not known why Wells was standing in the street.  An investigation of the accident is pending an autopsy report by the Montgomery County Coroner's office.  Wells was struck by a Troy woman who had been traveling northbound on St. Rt. 202 just past the intersection of St. Rt. 40 and St. Rt. 202.  The woman, who had been visiting her daughter in Huber Heights did not have alcohol in her system, and said in reports that the incident happened very fast.  According to reports, the woman said the light at the 202/40 intersection was green when she passed through it, which is why when she saw Wells in the roadway, she did not have time to react.  The woman reported that she had been traveling at 50 to 55 miles per hour when she struck Wells.  The woman was treated and released from Upper Valley Medical Center after receiving minor facial injuries.  Wells was an employee of Cliffside Golf Course and a graduate of Bethel High School.
