Service for Legionnaire, Water Works Official.
Funeral services for Forest L. Rauscher, superintendent of the Municipal Water Works, found dead Wednesday morning, will be conducted by the Rev. Paul Gehm Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Wagner Funeral Home with burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Members and officials of the Paul Schnell post of the American Legion, of which he was a member, will conduct military rites at the cemetery. The body was taken from the residence, 904 West Greene street, to the Wagner Funeral Home where friends may call. Forest Lee Rauscher, Jr., arrived today by airplane from his home in Jacksonville, Fla. Albert Rauscher of Chicago arrived in Piqua Wednesday night, both called by the death of their father.

Piqua people were shocked and grieved today to learn of the sudden death of Forest L. Rauscher, 47, superintendent of the Municipal Water Works, a veteran of World War I and active in civic and fraternal circles, who was found dead in his bed this morning at his home, 904 West Greene street, death resulting from either an embolism or a heart attack suffered sometime during the night. On a vacation this week and apparently in perfect health, when he retired last night he had requested his housekeeper, Mrs. Sarah Rue, not to awaken him early this morning. When she went to his room at 10:15 o’clock she found him dead. Born in Piqua September 5, 1895, he was the son of A. B. and Minnie Erb Rauscher. He had lived here all of his life and had served in the First World War as a private first class, enlisting August 15, 1918, and being assigned to Repair Unit of the 310th Motor Transport Corps. He served overseas from October 28, 1918, until May 23, 1919, receiving his honorable discharge May 27, 1919. Since then he had been active in Paul Schnell Post, No. 184, American Legion of which he was a past commander. He was also a past Chef de Gare of the 40 and 8 and had been a member of state committees both with the Legion and 40 and 8. He was a member of Warren Lodge, F. and A., Lafeyette Council, Piqua Chapter No. 31, Royal Arch Masons, as well as being affiliated with the Eagles, the United Commercial Travelers, the Piqua Rotary Club and the Piqua Foreman’s club. He was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church. He had been associated with the Municipal Water Works since the present plant started operations 17 years ago and succeeded James Montgomery as superintendent in 1935. He was also superintendent of the Piqua Sewage Disposal Plant. He leaves three sons, Forest Lee, Jr., of Jacksonville, Fla., and Albert of Chicago by a previous marriage and Robert Louis Rauscher, at home, whose mother, Mrs. Freda Cron Rauscher, died 7 years ago. The body was taken to the Wagner Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are pending word from the son in Chicago.
