LANDIS, ESTHER HOLLINGER - Esther Hollinger Landis died at the home of her daughter, north of Oran, Shelby county, Tuesday evening, January 16, aged 83 years, 5 month, 14 days.  Mrs. Landis was born in Maryland, Aug. 2, 1828, and after reaching young womanhood she came with her parents to Ohio.  November 27, 1847, she was united in marriage to Moses Landis, of Pleasant Hill, Ohio.  The greater part of their married life was spent in Shelby county where they were among the founders of the Loramie church, being every ready to labor and sacrifice that the church might prosper.  She was the mother of two sons and eight daughters.  The father and 6 children preceded her in death.  The remaining son is Curtis Landis of Rossburg, Ohio.  The daughters are Mrs. Tena Foust of North Dakota, Mrs. Vina Deeter, of Washington state, and Mrs. Chas. Grove, in whose home she resided and was well cared for.  Thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, an only brother, Jerry Hollinger of Olathe, Kansas, with a number of friends remain to cherish her memory.  Mrs. Landis was a woman of rare Christian character, whose confidence in her Master remained unshaken.  Elder Isaac Frantz, of Pleasant Hill, in his funeral discourse paid a fitting tribute to one who had spent seventy years in the cause of her Master.
