Miami Union

McDOWELL, EMELINE - Emeline, daughter of James and Rosamond Thackra, was born in Lostcreek township, Miami county, April 9, 1840, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. D. W. New, in Elkhart, Ind., Feb. 26, 1911.  On the 6th day of January 1860 she was united in marriage to Abner J. McDowell with whom for 48 years she shared life's joys and sorrows, until June 13th, 1908, when he was called from home to rest.  This union was blessed with the gift of one son and three daughters, the son and one daughter having preceded their parents to the land beyond the mystic river.  She was united with the Lostcreek Christian church at the age of 15 years in whose fellowship she remained until called from extreme suffering to perfect happiness.  She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. C. W. Kline of Staunton township and Mrs. D. W. New and two grandchildren, Ross and Bernice of Elkhart, Ind.  Of her father's family of three children, Mrs. J. P. Mitchell only remains.
