HAWN, ELIAS GARST - Elias
Garst Hawn, one of Concord township's most influential and substantial farmers,
died at his home about one and one-fourth miles northwest of Troy at 9:30 a.m.
Monday. He had not been in good health for the past few years. He
was born in Bethel township June 22, 1842, and was the son of John and Catherine
Sailor Hawn. All of his life was spent in this county, he having purchased
and removed to the farm on which he died in 1888. He also owned
considerable other holdings. He married Cynthia A. Nutter forty-seven
years ago, she passing away in 1890. He is survived by five sons, Will,
Harvey, Charles, Roy and Mack. He also leaves three sisters and one
brother. He was an industrious, honest, unassuming man and was respected
by all who knew him. He was a member of the Troy Christian church from
which the funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The services
were in charge of a former pastor, Rev. W. H. Denison, who was assisted by Rev.
J. E. Etter. Interment was made in Riverside cemetery.
