FRY, ELIAS - Brandt--Elias Fry died at his home near Brandt, Oct. 21, death being due to bulbar paralysis from which he had been suffering 12 hours.  He was born in this county Nov. 4, 1838, and was a son of Johnathon and Rachel Fry.  In 1865 he was united in marriage with Genevra Riffle.  He is survived by one son who lived on the home place, a daughter living in South Dakota, one sister, three brothers and a number of grandchildren.  The funeral services were held at the Brandt M. E. church, Saturday, Nov. 4, and were conducted by Rev. Trout.  Interment at New Carlisle.  Mr. Fry lived near Brandt for many years and was a man of sterling integrity.  He was a kind and accommodating neighbor, a good father and a devoted husband to the wife who preceded him to the Great Beyond.  There are only kindly words spoken of him and his family have the sympathy in this hour of sorrow all the deeper as it was unexpected.  Mr. Fry only returned on Sunday evening from Piqua where he had been visiting friends.

NOTE  from Wendy Watson:

It is hereby certified, that, Elias Fry and Genevive Boyd were united together in marriage; on the 27 day of April A.D. 1865, by J. B. Ost/MG Clark County. Filed and recorded April 28, A.D. 1865 John K. Sittler, Probate Judge, per Clarke County Probate Court Records. She being the daughter of Abraham and Elizabeth Lindsay Boyd, he being the son of Jonathan and Rebecca Hoover Fry.

Elias and Genevive Boyd Fry have three children, Clara A., Emma J., and Harry W., Clara and Emma married and moved out west in the late 1800's, Harry married Sarah Riffle 3 March 1890 marriage license No. 1540 issued Miami County, Ohio married by D. L. Filburn returned and recorded 3 March 1890, by W.J. Clyde, Probate Judge, Miami County Probate Court.

I am sure the mix up is from Harry and Sarah taking care of Elias in his older age, Genevive had already passed, the community knew both women and inadvertantly wrote the wrong name.
