LAPE, EDWARD W., SR. - Edward W. Lape, Sr., 84, vice president of the Favorite Stove & Range company, one of Piqua's most prominent citizens, father of E. W. Lape, Jr., until recently of this city, died at his home, 1118 Scudder street, Monday morning at 5 o'clock.  Mr. Lape had been bedfast for practically two years.  Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Church of Christ, of which he had been a member for 57 years.  He was an elder and active in the work of the church.  Burial will be made in Forest Hill cemetery.  Edward Walter Lape was born in Cincinnati, March 15, 1848, the son of the late William Henry and Martha Lape.  During his childhood he lived in Newport, Ky., but came to Piqua with the Favorite company in 1888.  Subsequently he became treasurer and vice president.  Two and a half years ago ill health forced his retirement.  Mr. Lape was also interested in the E. W. Lape store, organized in the 1890's, with J. B. Sheridan as partner.  At the dissolution of the partnership, in 1910, the firm became Lape & Millhouse Hardware, and continued until 1931 when Mr. Lape was joined by his son-in-law, John Meeker, who with a son, E. W. Lape, Jr., is now engaged in conducting the business.  The decedent was married to Miss Martha T. Simmons of Felicity, and to them one child, Bessie Louis, now Mrs. Herbert Huffman, of Piqua, was born.  His wife preceded him in death and he later married Miss Jeannette Smith, to whom four children were born: E. W. Lape, Jr., and Mrs. Meeker (Martha) both of Piqua, Robert of Chicago, Mrs. Ralph Licklider (Catherine) of Columbus.  Mr. Lape was prominent in the Masonic lodge and was recently bestowed a gold locket as a token of his services and a life membership in the Newport lodge.
