JACOBS, EDWARD L. - Edward L. Jacobs, one of the best known and most popular business men of Tippecanoe City committed suicide some time last Thursday night by shooting himself through the head.  The body was found along the canal north of town Thursday midnight after a search had been made in the vicinity of the home of his brother-in-law, William Long.  Jacobs had visited the Long home Thursday and had asked for the use of a revolver, with which he said he wanted to kill rats.  He seemed excited and his unusual request was refused.  Later he went to the Home of Roy Pohlman, nearby, and asking for the use of a weapon for the same purpose, secured one.  He shot himself in the head and is believed to have died instantly.  The hour at which the suicide occurred is unknown.  It is believed he committed the deed while temporarily mentally deranged.  He represented an insurance agency and it was first thought he might have owed the company money, but his accounts have been found to be straight.  Mr. Jacobs was 58 years of age and is survived by his wife, and four daughters, Mrs. Lon Ross, Mrs. Bernard Gesseman, Mrs. W. H. Whiteman, and Miss Alma Jacobs.  He was prominent in church work being a trustee of the Tipp City M. E. church.  The funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the late home and were conducted by Rev. Coffman.  The members of the Ben Hur and Jr. O. U. A. M. lodges attended as organizations.  There were many beautiful floral offerings.  Burial in Maple Hill cemetery
