LONG, DR. D. THOMAS - The
following article is clipped from the

Daily Capital, the issue of Sunday, March 27: Dr. D. Thomas Long, who died at
his home in
Topeka
last Sunday, was a resident of
Kansas
for twenty-five years. He made his home in
Topeka
since 1889, and followed his profession during the entire time. For a
number of years Dr. Long was superintendent of the Baptist hospital in this
city. Dr. T. Long was not only prominent in this city, but was well known
as a physician over the state and outside as well. He was a member of the
Kansas State Medical and Surgical society, the Ohio State Eclectic association
and of the National Eclectic Medical association. He was a contributor to
medical magazines from time to time. Mr. Long was the son of David and
Mariah Miller Long. He was born July 9, 1846, in
Miami
County,
Ohio
. He was raised on a farm and at the age of 14 years he went to work by
the month and pursued his studies at night. At 16 he entered
Antioch
college, but not having means to complete his course he was compelled to pursue
again his private studies with a mother and aunt to support. His education
was later completed at the
University
of
Michigan, and the Eclectic Medical institute at
Cincinnati, where he graduated with high honors in surgery and anatomy in 1882. He
entered upon the work of his profession at
Westville,
Ohio, where he remained four years, coming to
Kansas
in 1885 and locating at
Burlington. In 1889 he came to
Topeka, where he lived up till the time of his death. He was married in 1865 to
Miss Margaret Slack, a boyhood sweetheart, and seven children were born to them.
Mrs. Long died in 1891. In August, 1896, Dr. Long married Miss Mary Storm
of
Topeka, who survives him.
