Donald Minton

Donald Minton, 87, 750 Chestnut Circle, Greenville, died at 5:48 p.m. Thursday, March 25, 2004, at the Brethren Retirement Community Home in Greenville.  He was born in Troy Jan. 24, 1917, to the late Ora L. and Helen (Munger) Minton. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Willard Minton; and two grandsons, Matthew Maher and Hadley Roof. Mr. Minton graduated as valedictorian from Staunton Township schools in 1935. He attended the Bliss Business School in Columbus and graduated from Miami Jacobs Business College of Dayton in 1938. During World War II, he worked for the Hobart Manufacturing Co. in Troy and served two years in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman. He then worked 10 years as an accountant for the Aeroproducts Division of General Motors Corp. in Vandalia. He retired in January 1979 from the U.S. Department of Defense in Dayton, having worked as an auditor and price analyst for 14 years. After retirement, Mr. Minton took up the hobby of genealogy. He wrote a book on the ancestry of his parents.  He was a member of the Warren Lodge 24 F&AM in Piqua, the Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton and the Friends of the Darke County Park District in Greenville. He attended the Church of the Brethren in Greenville and was a member of the Congregational Christian United Church of Christ in Piqua.  He married Wilma Mae Hart in Piqua April 12, 1940, and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters and a son-in-law, Janet and Darhl Estes of Anderson, Ind., and Nancy Roof and Jean Maher, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters and a brother-in-law, Lois Pitsenbarger of Houston and Leora and Carl Long of Piqua.  The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday at the Jamieson and Yannucci Funeral Home, Piqua, with the Rev. Richard N. Henry Jr. and Chaplain Robert Bitner officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
