COUNTS, DAVIS - Davis
Counts, aged 85, died last Friday morning at his home on
East Franklin street
after a lingering illness due to old age. He was born near Springcreek,
May 6, 1825, and had spent his entire life in this county. He was the son
of Jacob and Elizabeth Counts. In early years he was apprenticed to a
carpenter ___ and engaged in it and contracting up until a few years before his
death. Many buildings erected by him will long stand as monuments to his
excellent work. April 20, 1852, he married Miss Rachel Loyd, who preceded
her husband in death less than two years ago. Four children were born to
this union, two of whom survive, Mrs. C. G. Snook and Charles W. Counts, both of
Troy
. Mr. Counts was identified with the Christian church, his father having
been one of the charter members of the first Christian church in
Troy
. He took an active interest in public affairs and served as member of the
council and of the board of education.
