MEREDITH, DAVID A - David A. Meredith was born Oct. 9, 1831, and died Sept. 4, 1911.  He was married to Mary A. Esterline Sept. 17, 1855.  Mrs. Meredith died Jan. 13, 1911.  To them were born ten children, five sons and five daughters and four daughters and two sons survive him.  Of his immediate family there were seven children two of whom survive him; also one sister, Della Meredith, and one brother, Thomas Meredith, of New Carlisle.  His mother lived to be 96 years of age.  There were three brothers, David, William and Thomas all of whom were soldiers in the Union army.  David volunteered Dec. 17, 1861, and was discharged Nov. 30, 1865, lacking only 17 days of four years of service.  He was appointed corporal Jan. 1. 1865. He belonged to the class of soldiers who put down the rebellion.  His courage on the field of battle was never surpassed.  Duty was his watchword.  There was no shame or false pretense in him and his word was a good as a bond.  His honesty was of that sincere type that never wavers.  His heart was as tender as a child.  He was popular because of his frankness.  He was most devotedly cared for by his daughters especially since the death of his life partner.
