March 16, 1911

VAN HORN, COLIN ELLWOOD - Colin Ellwood, only child of Bradford and Minnie Gorrell Van Horn, was born in Piqua, September 12, 1907, and died in Troy, March 19, 1911; aged three years, five months and twenty-eight days.  He was an unusually bright child, with a sweet loving disposition and many were the hopes centered in him, not by his parents alone, but by his uncles, aunt, grandparents and great grandmother, all of whom idolized him.  Two years ago, this month, a photograph was taken of the four generations: the great grandmother, Mrs. S. B. Geopper, then past her three score and ten years, the grandmother, Mrs. Ellwood Van Horn, still in the prime of life, the father in the vigor of young manhood and little Colin.  At the funeral services held Sunday afternoon at the residence of Bradford Van Horn, the four generations were again together, only God's finger had touched the brow of the youngest of the group and he slept, the last long sleep.  Rev. Beery, pastor of the Methodist church, spoke words of comfort to the bereaved family, and the uncles of the child served as pallbearers.  The interment was at Riverside cemetery.  Many beautiful floral offerings mutely testified to the sympathy felt for the parents in their great sorrow.  Among these pieces was a beautiful floral pillow sent by the wagon works employees, where Mr. Van Horn is employed.
