REIBER, CHARLES CLIFFORD - About
a year after the close of the Civil war on the third of May, 1866 thee was born
into the home of Jacob and Maria C. Reiber a little son, to whom was given the
name Charles Clifford Reiber. The home was in Pleasant Hill, Ohio, and
here the child received its schooling and grew into manhood. Here he spent
all but nine years of his life and was a jolly, happy friend and comrade to a
large number of the community. Nine years ago, his business called him
from this village to other parts of the country and three years ago he removed
to Indiana. A number of years ago he completed a course in the Cincinnati
School of Undertakers, since which time he has very successfully followed his
profession. At the time of his death, he was engaged in his chosen calling
at Marion, Indiana where he had lived for some time and where he had gained a
large number of friends. At the age of twenty-four, he was united in
marriage with Miss Kittie E. Brandon, of Laura, to whom has been born a
daughter, Miss Irene Reiber. The wife and daughter, father and sister, are
here today; but the only brother is detained at his home in Colorado. Two
brothers and the mother preceded him in death. When only a boy, Mr. Reiber
united with the Christian church of this place under the preaching of Rev. J. B.
Fenner and was baptized; and he has always retained his church home in his
boyhood town. His character has been above reproach, and his faith in God
was so strong that when death approached he talked calmly of it and said that he
was not afraid to die. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias of
Covington, which order today tenders him these last sad rites; of the Masonic
and Easter Star orders of Greentown, Indiana; and of the Grand Fraternity of
Columbus, Ohio. He was an upright and honorable business man, and made
many friends in the communities in which he lived. He endeared himself to
his family and loved ones by his constancy and devotion and about his life have
been woven many precious and helpful memories. The funeral services were
held at Pleasant Hill, June 28, 1910 conducted by his pastor, Rev. Alva M. Kerr.
