Charles
C. Cron, 87, member of a pioneer Piqua family and a retail furniture dealer in
Columbus 50 years, died at 6 p.m. Monday at his home, 737 West 159th Street,
Gardena, Calif., a suburb of Los Angeles. He
had been ill since suffering a coronary attack December 23. Born in Piqua
September 22, 1867, he was the last member of the family of Lucius C. and
Margaret Ginn Cron. His father was a
former mayor of Piqua and member of the firm of L. C. and W. L. Cron, furniture
manufacturers. He spent his early
life in Piqua and attended school here. In
Columbus, he was a member of the firm of Spicer, Henthrone and Cron company
until his retirement. He was
affiliated with the Fourth Avenue Congregational Christian church in Columbus.
He had been in California since September 1, 1954. His marriage to
Bertie Anna Orr took place in Piqua in 1896.
She died October 30, 1952. Surviving are two sons, Charles S. Cron, Jr.,
of Gardena, Calif., and Worley Cron of Columbus; two daughters, Mrs. Harold
Macey (Ella) of Atlanta, Ga., and Mrs. Warder Runyon (Florence) of Columbus;
four granddaughters; six great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were a son, Donald; a daughter, Margaret; a
brother, Jackson C. Cron; two sisters, Mrs. Henry May (Ella) and Hattie Cron; a
half-brother, Clarence Cron; a half sister, Mrs. Robert L. Kunkle (Florence),
and several brothers and sisters who died in infancy. The Rev. Roger Gough will
conduct services Saturday at 2 p.m. at the J. C. Cron and Sons chapel with
burial in Forest Hill cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday
evening and Saturday.
