CHRISTMAS, MELVIN LEE - New Carlisle - Melvin Lee Christmas, 83, of New Carlisle, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, Nov. 3, after a brief illness. He was born June 24, 1926 in Dayton, to E. Carl and Lena (Johnson) Christmas. Melvin was a retired postal carrier with 30 years of service and a charter member of the First Baptist Church, New Carlisle, where he served as deacon. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Geneva Christmas; also surviving are his children, Gary Lee (Anita) Christmas of New Carlisle, Ruth Ann (Bill) Moore of Waverly, Jeffrey Alan (Danese) Christmas of New Carlisle; and sister, Norma (Heath) Bobbett of Indianapolis, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert M. Christmas in November 2005. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9 at the First Baptist Church, 8870 E. State Route 571, New Carlisle. Pastor Rick Shoemaker will officiate, with burial in Glen Haven Cemetery, New Carlisle. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made to the church memorial fund in Melvin's memory. Arrangements are entrusted to Frings and Bayliff Funeral Home, Tipp City.
