MILLER, JOHN R. - Sidney - John R. Miller, 87, of Sidney, passed away Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Ohio Veteran's Home, Georgetown. He was born Jan. 7, 1922, in Sidney, the son of the late Stella (Barnhorst) and Raymond Miller. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Rita Ann Peltier; sons, Craig (Pat) Miller, Donald (Patricia) Miller of Sidney; and son, David (Nancy) Miller, Brasstown, N. C.; daughter, Jana (Russell) Brown of Sidney; nine grandchildren, Brian, Amy, Sarah, Lucas, Kim, Ross, Kitty, Keith and Kara; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also is survived by a sister, Maggie (Harold) Jackson of Cincinnati; and a brother, Joseph (Betty Lou) Miller of Huber Heights. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Bruce E.; daughter, Sue Ann; and a grandson; also named Bruce E.; brothers, William and Richard; and sisters: Roberta and Ruth Meyers. He attended Holy Angels School and was a member of Holy Angels Church, Sidney. He worked at Monarch Machine Tool for 42 years before retiring in 1984. John was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and was a World War II veteran who served in the Philippines and Japan for which he received the Bronze Star and numerous other metals. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post No. 217. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sidney, with the Rev. Fr. Jason Bedel as Celebrant. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery, Sidney. Full military honors will be presented at the cemetery. Calling hours will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home, 1401 Fair Road, Sidney.
