MAUPIN, J. HOUSTON "TEX"
- A requiem mass for J. Houston
"Tex" Maupin, formerly of Tipp City, was offered in Holy Family Catholic
Church, Seal Beach, California, where he and his wife have made their home
for some years. Mr. Maupin, 79, died on January 29 in a Los Atamitos
(Calif.) hospital of a heart seizure which followed a massive coronary
suffered three weeks earlier. He was born in Gainesville, Texas, on January
22, 1893, the son of the late John Milton and Almyra Houston Maupin. During
World War I he was a pilot and flight instructor, serving as a lieutenant in
the U. S. Army, Air Service Signal Corps. He and his wife, the former June
Gilcreest, were married in 1918 at Kelly Field, San Antonio. Mr. Maupin
moved to Tipp City from Texas in 1943 when he joined the Aeroproducts
Division of General Motors Corporation, and lived here until his
retirement. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, J. H. Maupin,
Jr., of San Pedro, California; two daughters, Peggy, of Chicago, and Jeanne
Maupin Tornow, of Apple Valley, California; and seven grandchildren.
