Miami Union

WEBB, MRS. ANNA (nee: Deweese) - Mrs. Anna Webb fell asleep in Jesus at the residence of her son, Thomas Webb, near Attica, Fountain Co., Indiana, on Saturday, July 18, 1880, aged 68 years, 6 months and one day.  Deceased was born in Middletown, Butler County, O., January 17, 1812.  Her father was the Rev. Sam'l Deweese, a minister of the Baptist Church, and one of the early pioneers of the Miami Valley.  She united with the Baptist Church in her 18th year, and remained a faithful follower of the Master until called from labor unto rest.  She was united in marriage to Jesse T. Webb, in Miami Co., O., October 20, 1831, and at the time of his death, January 31, 1880, they had lived happily together for 48 years.  This union was blessed by the birth of several children, four of whom are still living, and all residents of Warren Co., Ind.: Mrs. Benj. F. Titus, Josiah M. Webb, Mrs. T. R. Harbaugh, and Thomas Webb.  Mrs. Webb, in company with her husband, moved from Miami Co., O., to Warren Co., Ind., in September 1871.  Since the death of her husband in January 1880, she has been in frail health, occasioned by a bronchial trouble which finally terminated in consumption and death at the time above stated.  The funeral discourse was preached by the Rev. William Wilmer, of the Presbyterian Church, of Williamsport, Ind., at her son's residence, on Sabbath afternoon at 3 o'clock p.m., after which her remains were followed to their last resting in the beautiful cemetery of Attica, Ind., by a large concourse of relatives and friends, where they shall sleep until that morn when the voice of the Archangel and trump of God shall arouse her from her slumber, then arrayed in the beautiful robe of Christ's righteousness, we hope to again meet her blooming in immortal youth, free from sorrow, pain and death.  To her friends she has left the rich legacy of a pure and holy life.  May the Lord lead all of her children to follow in the footsteps of their mother, until at last they shall make an unbroken family in heaven.  How beautiful the words of the Christian poet:

Life's labor done as sinks the clay--
Life from its load the spirit flies;
While Heaven and earth combine to say
How blest the righteous when he dies.          S. G. H.
