MOORE, CATHARINE E. - Memoriam - Catharine E. Moore, a
notice of whose death appeared in the Union of the 15th inst., was endowed
with rare qualities of both head and heart. At the age of sixteen she (one
word unreadable) by the death of her mother, left in charge of a family of
eight children. These she protected with tender care, and guided them to
manhood and womanhood with the watchful solicitude of a loving mother. In
her own family she was an example of patient endurance and of uncomplaining
submission to the burdens and afflictions which so sorely and for so long a
time weighed upon her. On the 23rd day of August, 1857, she was one of the
twenty-seven persons who organized the 1st Christian Congregation of Troy,
O., of which she remained as earnest and worthy member till a short time
before her death, when, on her removal from her old home a letter of
dismission and commendation was granted to her. All who knew Mrs. Moore
knew her only to esteem her. Her life was above reproach, and her example
was worthy imitation. The world, we think, cannot very well afford to lose
her presence.
