CRANE, MRS. PRISCILLA J. (nee: Eddy) -
In Fredonia, N. Y., Dec. 28, Mrs. Priscilla J., widow of the late Hon. John
Crane, and mother of C. T. Crane, of Troy, Ohio, in the 70th year of her age.
Mrs. Crane was a daughter of Jonathan and Rebecca Eddy and was born in Horwick,
N. Y., June 21, 1809. She was married to Judge Crane at Fredonia, by Rev.
Elish Tucker, Nov. 19, 1829, and has ever since resided in this village.
He died May 18, 1860. Mrs. Crane was greatly beloved by a large circle of
acquaintances, and was a most exemplary woman in all the duties and
responsibilities of life. She was for more than forty years a member of
the Presbyterian Church of this village, and faithfully discharged her Christian
duties. She was always cheerful and patiently bore the trials of life of
which she had her share, with true Christian resignation. Thus one by one
the "mothers in Israel" depart, and who shall take their places? She
leaves six children to mourn their great loss--four sons and two daughters.
The oldest, John Eddy, died in 1861. Mrs. Crane was a sister of Mrs. Dr.
Walworth. Judge Crane was the largest contributor to the erection of the
old Presbyterian Church edifice, and without his aid it could not have been
erected. The funeral was attended this Tuesday p.m. at her late residence,
on East Main St. There was a large attendance some of whom have known her
during the whole time of her residence here, some fifty years. Her
Christian character, her habitual cheerfulness, her kindness of heart and noble
womanly virtues were most worthily presented by the pastor, Rev. A. L. Benton.
Rev. Dr. Stillman of Dunkirk, who came there in 1836, took part in the
exercises.--Fredonia
