MAUDE, JOHN B. - Death of John B. Maude - Mr. J. B. Maude, a native of Troy, and a resident here from childhood to manhood, but for over twenty years a resident and prominent business man of St. Louis, died the middle of last week, at Leadville, Colorado, where he had gone on business.  We copy the following notice of Mr. Maude from the St. Louis Times-Journal of May first.  Expressions of sorrow and regret on every side yesterday attested the respect of the community for the memory of John B. Maude, whose death has been announced by telegraph from Leadville, Colorado.  Mr. Maude came to this city from Troy, Ohio about a quarter of a century ago, and his commercial record here has been without blemish.  For many years he was the trusted employee of Pittman Bros. & Co., dry goods merchants.  In 1861 the firm of Appleton, Noves & Co., commenced business, and Mr. Maude's energies and interests were identified with that house to the present time.  The death of the silent partner, Mr. Jarvis, of Louisville, which occurred a few months since, necessitated the winding up of the estate, and about the 18th of February last Mr. Maude went out to Leadville looking after the interests of the Sheltenham Smelting Company, of which he was Vice-President.  Soon after his arrival in Colorado a catarrhal disorder was developed and became seriously aggravated by the severe climate.  Congestive chills and pneumonia followed, and Mr. Maude's condition becoming alarming his wife was sent for.  Every effort was made to spare his life but the disease conquered and John B. Maude passed away in his forty-first year, leaving one son, a bright lad of sixteen, a pupil of Washington University.  We have also before us a copy of the St. Louis Republican of the 6th giving a full account of the funeral and the proceedings of a very large meeting of Merchants in reference to the deceased, all of which tend to show that Mr. Maude was very highly esteemed both as a citizen and a man of business.
