RIDDLE, GEORGE W.
- George W. Riddle, son of James A. and Hope Riddle, died at his residence, in
this county, aged 30 years and 3 months, Friday, February 14th, 1879, of
consumption. He was married to Miss Mary R. Duncan September 22, 1870.
In his youth he made a profession of religion and united with the Baptist
Church. In 1873 he joined the M. E. Church on probation, was received into
full connection, and lived a true Christian life. For the last four years
he was an efficient steward. His faith in Christ and expectation of a
"better country" sustained him as he grew feeble and suddenly died. He
leaves a wife and two children. A half brother and sister survive him; but
of a family of seven--father, mother, four sons and a daughter--he was the last
to bid adieu to the world. A large gathering at the house last Sunday
morning at the funeral service, conducted by W. H. Black, gave evidence of the
esteem in which the people held the deceased. His remains were taken to
Fletcher for interment. W. H. B.
