JONES, SISTER ANNA - It hath pleased Almighty God to remove from
our midst Sister Anna Jones, but we feel that this provisional working of our
Creator's hand which had resulted in our loss will be and is her eternal gain.
Sister Jones departed this life on Thursday, April 26, after a severe illness of
about four months, aged 26 years and 6 months. She was a faithful member
of the A. M. E. Church and a co-worker in the Sabbath School for the past eleven
years. The Sabbath School on last Sabbath expressed their feelings of
sorrow for her and the loss they would sustain by the vacancy of her seat.
We further mourn the loss of her in sympathy with her husband and little
daughter, together with other friends and relatives. The funeral service
was conducted by Rev. J. Lewis, at 2 o'clock on Friday. The subject of his
discourse was taken from Prov. 31:30: "Favor is deceitful and beauty vain,
but a woman that feareth the Lord she shall be praised." This was a
very appropriate subject, and was handled in a manner fully delineating the
Christian life of the deceased sister, which we all witnessed while she was
living and moving in our midst. Her hope of immortality was found in her
last expiring moments to be bright. Death seemed to be no dread, but all
was well. Sister Jones, we trust, has landed on the other side of the
river, there awaiting the coming of those left behind.
