JOHNSTON, GEO (GEORGE) C.
- Our Piqua correspondent mentions the
death of Mr. Geo. C. Johnston, an old and much-respected citizen of Piqua, at
the age of 77 years. Mr. J. had resided at Piqua more than fifty
years--coming there from Ireland, when he had scarcely grown to manhood.
We have known him well since the days of our childhood, and regret to learn of
his death, although he had lived several years beyond the allotted number.

JOHNSTON, GEORGE C.
- Mr. George C. Johnston, one of the oldest
residents of Piqua, died yesterday morning aged 77 years. For over sixty
years he had been a resident of the town and had seen it grow up from its
infancy. In his youth he was a fur trader among the Indians, concerning
whom he was better informed than almost any citizen of the state. A number
of his reminiscences of the savages and of the early days of Miami County were
published in the Cincinnati Commercial a few months ago. Since retiring
from business he has lived in our city, beloved and respected by all, and his
death leaves a void that cannot be filled. The funeral services, which
will be conducted by the Masonic order, take place to-morrow.
