CARTER, PROF. - DEATH OF PROF. CARTER. - The commencement exercises of the Piqua High School, which were to have come off Thursday evening last, were postponed, through a sudden and very sad cause--the sickness and death of the Principal of the School, Prof. Carter.  He had been unwell for a few days previous, but it was thought the exercises would proceed without him.  At the appointed time the hall was filled, when it was announced that Mr. C. was dying and that the exercises would be postponed, and shortly afterwards the announcement of his death was made.  Mr. C. was highly esteemed wherever known, as both a teacher and a gentleman, and his death is a sad loss to the Schools of Piqua, to whose advancement he has largely contributed.  To the class just about to experience the saddest moments of the school life--that of bidding adieu to alma mater--this sudden death will cause additional and lasting sadness.  For though their school life may have been never so pleasant, a void that cannot easily be filled has been created in its unhappy termination.
