VARNER, CHRISTOPHER - My Old Uncle--Until lately, I had an old uncle, who never was married. He resided in Schuylkill County, Penn. The people with whom he lived caught the small-pox, and he left the house, which was his own, went off about six miles, built a hut for himself in the woods, and repaired to wood-chopping, getting his provisions at a neighbors--A. Boyers. After a time, he ceased to come for his bread, and Mr. B. became alarmed about him, and went to my uncle's shanty. He found the old man lying alone, very sick. In fact, he died within an hour's time after he was discovered. My uncle's name was Christopher Varner. D. G. Varner Covington, O.
