YOUNT, SOLOMON - Solomon Yount died at his residence in Butler Township, Montgomery County, O., on the 20th of April, 1870, aged 72 years, 8 months and 28 days. The deceased was the father of Mr. John I. Yount of this place. He was born in North Carolina on the 22d of July, 1797, and came to Ohio with his parents in 1802. At that early date this country was almost an entire wilderness, and in coming from Dayton northward to their new home the pioneers were compelled to open a road part of the way. Growing up with the growth of the country deceased was necessarily doomed to the privations of frontier life. But, with many others of the first settlers of this country, God blessed him with body and mind to successfully grapple with and overcome the difficulties of pioneer life, so that from the middle of life onward he enjoyed a very good living. He was twice married, living but a few years with his first wife. His second wife survives him. He was the father of eleven children, eight of whom grew to manhood and womanhood, seven of whom still live. He was a member of the Society of Friends, was of a very quiet and gentle spirit, endearing himself to all with whom he mingled, both by his moral integrity and Christian kindness. He was buried at Mill-creek grave-yard, the funeral services being conducted by Thomas Jay, Smith Gregg, and William Pearson. So passed away, in Christian triumph, a loving husband, devoted father, a kind neighbor, and a true Christian.
